Kind Parents Raise Kind Children

Kind parents raise kind children, six tips on how to self regulate and raise a kind child.

While we must prepare our children for this competitive world and give them the best possible start in life, it is equally vital to raise them to be kind. As parents, we are responsible for moulding the next generation and how we do it defines the kind of world they create. Imagine having the opportunity to nurture and shape the lives of future presidents, prime ministers, lawmakers, doctors and other influential members of society. A person's kindness impacts their decisions, which in turn impacts the world. Raising kind children is a gift to your children as well as to society.

As parents, we are well aware of the complexities of parenting, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, here are six things we can do to help them grow up as kind individuals -

  1. Children learn from what they see and not what they are told - Encourage empathy and kindness in your daily life and inspire your children to follow suit.

  2. Promote Kindness and Respect - As parents are sure to make mistakes, we are human after all! Try to be kind at your weakest moments and respect your children enough to apologise where needed.

  3. Practice empathy - Encourage your children to listen and validate others’ emotions while learning to respect and understand different perspectives.

  4. Teach acceptance - We live in a diverse society and teaching our kids to accept each others’ differences can foster friendships and inclusivity.

  5. Practice self-care as a parent - When your children see you treating yourself with kindness, they will most certainly learn to treat themselves with kindness as well. Only if you are kind to yourself, can you be kind to others around you.

  6. Appreciate your children for their kindness - Don't forget to praise them when they do something right.

Save these 5 condensed tips for later

Providing your children with a loving, safe environment will help them become stronger and kinder individuals. Many studies have shown that kindness is a valuable quality which helps your children succeed and live happier lives. Kind children lead to kinder classrooms kinder universities and kinder workspaces.

Changing the world through kindness… one Itsy bit at a time

It has been truly moving to witness the array of kind gestures, actions and intentions that have taken place throughout the world during recent times. In the face of adversity, we’ve seen the true spirit of humanity shine through, and there is an abundance of research to highlight the mental, physical and emotional benefits of showing kindness to yourself and others.

This weeks post offers an insight into an organisation creating empowering change to spread more kindness in the world. They are doing this through the release of their film Itsy, their Be Kind School Programme and various other campaign initiatives to get the world thinking about the positive impact of kindness. This organisation is our charity partner, Be Kind Movement, and here their Founder and Director Premila Puri shares her kindness mission, alongside a fresh perspective on small acts of kindness we can all do.

We all have the power to make a difference

Kindness has been proven to increase our happiness, reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing. At the same time, spreading kindness offers us the opportunity to connect with others, building a stronger sense of community and unity with friends, family, neighbours and even strangers.

A great example of this is the #ClapForCarers campaign, which has seen people across the whole of the UK come together to show their appreciation for our key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This simple act of kindness lets all of those working on the front line know that their hard work and commitment is appreciated and of value, hopefully building up their spirits and boosting positive morale. Click here to read more.

Be Kind Movement - Laura's volunteering experience

As it is national Volunteers' Week, I wanted to share my experience of the volunteering I am doing at the moment. While everything at the moment seems so difficult in the world, I hope this is a positive reminder that kindness still exists.

Back in February, I went along to a 'speed networking' event organised by the Media Trust. The Media Trust connect charities and skilled communications volunteers, so marketeers like me can give back in a structured way. At the event, I 'matched' with several organisations and have since offered pro bono advice and support to six different charities all doing amazing work.

The seventh charity I began supporting, and continue to do so now, is the Be Kind Movement. Established by Premila Puri in 2015, the charity works hard to provide educational opportunities to empower children and young people to develop their emotional intelligence through acts of kindness. Hope

Hope

A simple four letter word, with the deepest element of faith.
Reinforcing humanity in its truest sense

Ruvimbo, who penned the poem on ITSY

A simple four letter word, with the deepest element of faith.
Reinforcing humanity in its truest sense.

In the form of a friendly spider, our very own Itsy.
Holding Alison' s hand out of loneliness, but without any sympathy.
Sympathising does no good, being empathetic gives strength.
The power to heal and helps one refrain.

With a new perspective and the promise to live,
Alison moved on, away from her fears and grief.
The loveable Itsy, taught Alison the pearls of kindness.
She learnt to smile, share and empathise.
The web of life is nothing less than this.
Teaching us to fight it out, as a survivor is.

We never know what's going on in a person's life.
A little bit of patience,
An act of kindness can change a mind.
Be the ray of hope, a guide or a friend,
Like our cute little Itsy, whose kindness never ends.

An Act of Kindness

Reflecting upon a world,
On a journey ,
to understand and confront
a distorted reality.
Governed by a lack of trust scattered amongst us.

Reflecting upon a world,
On a journey ,
to understand and confront
a distorted reality.
Governed by a lack of trust scattered amongst us.

Exploring nature and its complexities,
As I linger on the concrete pavements and admire its authenticity.
Reflecting upon human nature, recognising that lack of love is what truly separates us.

An action so pure and desperately needed to unify and connect complete strangers.

Acts of kindness, that give me hope and leave me astonished,
Leaving me amazed at the genuine help others will give when there is no guarantee of being rewarded.

As I gather my thoughts and reflect upon my journey,
I notice a spider. As I scream, examine it and wonder,
Confused on what my next course of action should be, overwhelmed with mixed feelings.

I stop and ponder.

I begin to analyse the beauty in its movement, its detail and texture,
an enchanting elegant creature.

A wonderful creation by nature.

As I look closer and examine what binds us.

I realise there is so much more that brings us together than divides us.

An act of kindness,
is what brought us together,
a bond I plan on keeping forever.

Kindness and BBCs The Apprentice

I was thinking about what it means to be kind - specifically in the workplace. Is there place for kindness in the office or is it better to be shrewd in business?

I was thinking about what it means to be kind - specifically in the workplace. Is there place for kindness in the office or is it better to be shrewd in business?

I took to the Oxford dictionary in order to answer this question with the definition listed as 'The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.' Now if you think about BBCs The Apprentice, as an example of how 'go-getters go about business', do you think 'kindness' is a quality most of the candidates and Lord Sugar share?

I took to looking up antonyms for kindness in order to make sure I'm answering this question in a fair and just way. Antonyms included selfishness, intolerance, meanness and mercilessness amongst others.

So which did BBCs The Apprentice depict more? Did you see more tolerance, generosity and consideration or rather selfishness, intolerance and meanness? Click here to read more
